Being in a top guard in our area going for third year now I'd be glad to give you advice on whats fun for the guard and what helps out to be in the tops. Watch your guard closely and correct their mistakes often. Use good criticism when helping them learn what they did wrong. This can sometimes hurt if your to firm but if your not firm enough they'll take it as a joke. In the beginning teach them easy work but as you practice more allow them to tell you what feels good to them. Listen to them and work with their problems. Always be true. Tell them how they looked ruthfully and don't sugercoat anything. It's hard to do but in the ed your guard will thank you for it. Prasie them for the thing thay did well but not to much. If you do they might begin to slack off. If they know you expect even more of them they'll try harder to get the prasie they want from you. At the end of the season prasie them as much as you'd like..........but not to much once again, the vets. may come back as if they know everything. AND DON'T PLAY FAVORITES. This causes ALOT of hard times and hard feelings. Believe in your guard and they'll believe in you
