I totally think you should try out for junior captain anyways. The girl you think will get it might not, you never know. I have been captain for the past 2 years and I never thought i would make it as a sophomore but i did, and Im proud of myself i went for it. So go for it! Even if you dont make it you can always work up to it for next year.
ABout your P.S - im totally feeling that vibe myself. It really irritates me. I thought i was the only one with this problem.
