The standard is weightlifting gloves; I've found too much padding makes a sabre "bounce" out of my hand. Once I forgot my gloves, and in a pinch used our band's black gloves-the clarinets cut off the fingers-and used black electrical tape to hold the gloves onto my wrists securely while I marched the show.
