do NOT use pvc pipe for poles!

This might sound like a good idea, but pvc pipe is very dangerous to the performer.

Because the pipe is so flexible it bends and flexes while doing flagwork, this sends reverbations from the hands up the arms and into the shoulders - this is very stressful on the body.

PVC pipe also shatters very easily, and the shards are very sharp. I've seen performers' hands cut to shreads from pvc pipe poles! Not good! The sharp end of a broken piece of pipe could also be considered a weapon...this is a litigious society, after all.

If you are looking for a cost effective way to buy poles, go to your local hardware store and buy aluminum shower curtain rods. If you weight the ends properly, you will have the closest things possible to actual poles!
