I'm the co-captain of a guard that had serious "getting along" problems its first year, and one thing I've learned is that if the group doesn't focus together, work together, and play together, they will never look together on a field. The closer friends the guard is, the better their timing, movements, and dance skills are coordinated. In our guard, we have big/little sisters between upper classmen and freshmen, we try to have everyone over to an apartment every weekend or so for dinner and bowling or a movie (we have almost 20, so it's a feat!), and we have "social time" at practice, where we make announcements and plan activities... we also design a section t-shirt every year.
