Drum Majors

I am seeking any advice on becoming Drum Major. I'm a freshman and the only other competition I have is a sophmore. I can get help from several people including a college drum major, a current drum Major, and a field captain. I'm still afraid she'll beat me because sh'e older. Any advice is appreciated.
